The Winona Community Realestate Fund has acquired the historic Grain and Lumber Exchange building located at the corner of 4th and Center St. This property is to undergo a complete redevelopment and historic rehabilitation with a new use of residential housing. The final project will be comprised of 29 units ranging from efficiency to two-bedroom units. Eighteen of the units will be rented as fully furnished short-term rentals with the balance being extended stay apartments. This rehabilitation will consist of full mechanical upgrades as well as new windows and interior finishes to bring it up to modern efficiency expectations, but the historic character and finishes will be maintained especially in the exterior details and historic corridors. Though not a true hotel, this will be the first “large-scale” short-term rentals available in downtown Winona since the closing of the riverfront AmericInn hotel.

The project team expects to have both the short-term furnished units and the extended stay ready for occupancy in Q1 of 2023.
